Bonjour!
As some of you may know, I am a big fan of thrift stores/flea markets/anything not full price. With that in mind, I decided to do some research on the Paris flea markets that I had heard so much about. After some careful online investigation, my friend Jessie and I decided to check out the St-Ouen Market. Located in the 18 eme, it is huge- it spreads from the Porte de St-Ouen and the Porte de Clingnancourt. It was a long metro ride but once we got there we put on our game faces, ready to bargain (I managed to get a man to sell me a pair of gloves for 4 euro not 5!). The beginning of the market reminded me of Canal St. in NYC. Vendor after vendor selling clothes, shoes, fake designer bags and tourist items like hats that say "PARIS" that no one should ever buy. After walking around for an hour we decided to get some fuel and landed in a cafe full of locals and not a single young adult or tourist. It felt great. With our stomachs full of warm soup, we ventured back to the market and finally found the famous antique section. It was unreal. Vintage designers bags, beautiful 18th century furniture, old books, colorful beads and fabrics, antique maps and movie posters- I was in heaven to say the least. Jessie and I never leave home without our cameras so of course we documented the whole trip. Using as much French as I could, I only spoke in French to the men and women who ran the individual tents and sale spots. I'd love to go back one day and furnish my house with everything there! At the end of our adventure we decided to go back to the Canal St-esque area and buy some cheap scarves and then call it a day due to the cold. I've included some pictures- enjoy! Tomorrow starts my 2nd week of classes so I'll be sure to keep you updated on the school front.
Bises,
Lauren Jill
